ISO certification for the wide range of Arctic the Silk

Arctic the Silk was recently certified to the ISO 12647 standard. The aim of the certification is higher efficiency in printing, giving the client a more even quality of printed material regardless of the printing press used. Designers and printers alike will gain from this development while costs decrease thanks to higher efficiency in production.

Arctic the Silk is made at the Arctic Paper Håfreströms Mill in Sweden where it is the biggest product, representing 50 per cent of overall sales. The paper, which has now been ISO 12647 certified, helps ensure quality throughout the production process from initial creation to test printing and the final print run. Arctic the Silk falls within the guideline values for gloss and colour shading to meet the requirements of ISO 12647-2.

The ISO standard contributes to a uniform result irrespective of printer, as well as high, stable print quality and increased efficiency. Another aim of the standard is to ensure printers can achieve the appropriate quality level more quickly while reducing start-up times and minimising paper loss.

“More and more of our customers are asking for ISO-certified papers and we are very pleased that we are now able to offer just that. Many printing houses are tired of drawn-out discussions about print quality, colour shading and deviations from the test print, which can now be minimised thanks to an ISO-certified workflow. This makes it easier for designers and printers to get a good idea of the anticipated results whichever printer they use,” says Anders Fransson, Manager Customer Technical Service at Arctic Paper Håfreströms.

The standard is called ISO 12647-2, “Graphic technology – Process control for the production of half-tone colour separations, proof and production prints, Part 2: Offset lithographic processes”.

Arctic the Silk is a white, fully coated paper with a silky smooth, half-matt surface with excellent image and text reproduction. The paper has high bulk, opacity and stiffness as well as good printing properties. The surface is reader-friendly and provides a good print gloss on multitone surfaces. The paper also comes in a noteworthy array of grammages from 90-525 g/m2. Moreover, the higher grammages are laminated to ensure the same high quality printing surface throughout the range.
