i = ARCTIC PAPER RECOMMENDS
Always output a colour proof before the printer starts up the presses to make sure everything looks all right.
However, a word of warning: colour proofs on uncoated paper can be quite misleading, as the repro and film adjustments made for dot gain, paper, shade, definition, screen ruling etc. may be hard to reproduce on a colour proof. This is especially true if the proof is output onto a different medium with a very smooth surface, such as a chromalin.The colours and the image will be perceived in a completely different way compared to the actual end result.
i Also worth mentioning is the fact that analogue colour proofs are not suitable for uncoated paper. Instead we recommend a digital run that allows you to simulate the end result, i.e. adapt it for the right paper in the right printing press. The very best solution is to run the test in the actual press to be used, using the same paper grade.
The customer then has an ideal basis for making any final repro and film adjustments, to ensure the end result is completely in line with the customer’s requirements.
This may seem like quite a costly affair at first sight, but in the long run and in high-volume productions it often ends up being the most cost-effective option. It not only avoids making errors, but also eliminates the misunderstandings that can so easily occur when checking and approving proofs output by other methods.
After all, always going for the cheap option can end up being very expensive. |
