The Pamo family of book papers is growing. To complement the range, Arctic Paper is now launching a new environmentally friendly paper for paperbacks, Pamo Life, with a unique content of 27 per cent recycled fibres.
Pamo Life is produced at Arctic Paper Mochenwangen in Germany, one of the Groups four paper mills. The new product is developed specifically for high-quality paperbacks. It is a wood-containing paper with 27 per cent of recycled fibres from both magazine and newspaper materials (post consumer waste), which is uniquely high for book paper. Despite the high percentage of recycled material, the paper has good printability. Strength of the paper is also high as for a paper made of recycled fibre, and comparable to paper qualities produced solely from virgin fibre.

Pamo Life is available in a yellowish shade, with a brightness of ISO 74. The range includes grammages of 70, 80 and 90 g/m2 in two bulks 1,5 and 1,8.
“The environmental aspect is becoming increasingly important in all industries, and the book segment is no exception”, says Michael Stupp, Product Manager for Pamo at Arctic Paper. “With this commitment we strive to take the lead regarding wood-containing environmentally friendly papers and show the market that new qualities still can be obtained if you dare to think in new directions.”

Successful research & development Behind the new features of Pamo Life lies a comprehensive product development project at Arctic Paper Mochenwangen, which has made it possible to obtain a high-quality, woodcontaining environmentally friendly paper that is also durable in the printing process. “The project has been successful and has presented a number of new exciting results. Among other things, we have optimized the cleaning process for recycled fibre which has given a cleaner and better looking paper. In addition, the surface of the new paper is smoother, with even better printability”, says Michael Stupp.
Environmental certification To present a fully certified paper quality was another objective for the product development project. Pamo Life is available as both FSC* and PEFC** certified and thus complies with all regulations for sustainability – as one of the first recycled wood-containing papers on the market.
